Teks berjenis diskusi (Discussion) adalah teks yang di dalamnya terdapat paling tidak 2 sudut pandang dan pendapat mengenai suatu hal atau peristiwa. fungsi dari teks diskusi adalah untuk mengeksplorasi berbagai perspektif yang ada sebelum meraih suatu keputusan atau kesimpulan. selain itu, teks berjenis diskusi juga menyajikan 2 sisi yang berbeda terhadap 1 topik yang sama, seperti pihak pro dan kontra dalam suatu debat.

komponen teks jenis ini adalah sebagai berikut.
- issue, bagian ini merupakan sebuah pernyataan pembuka yang berisi topik/isu yang akan dibahas
- arguments “for” (pro) and arguments “against” (kontra), dibagian ini disajikan 2 jenis argumen dari masing-masing sudut pandang dari topik yang sedang dibahas.
- conclusion/recommendation, bagian ini merupakan kesimpulan dari diskusi yang sudah dilakukan. penulis/pembicara menentukan posisinya entah mendukung atau menolak suatu topik. keputusan tersebut kemudian menjadi rekomendasi yang dapat diberikan kepada pembaca.

one benefit of bringing smartphone to school to help students communicate with their parents. students also can access knowledge from wikipedia as an online encyclopedia. smartphone also give students an opportunity to practise online test on subjects that they still don’t understand.
in the modern era, smartphones have become a part of students’ lifestyle. they bring their smartphone everywhere and often hold it in their hands. smartphones have facilities customized for teenagers, such as a camera, a video recorder, the internet connection, a calculator, bluetooth, email, a music player, maps, a radio, a calender, and a watch.
in the other hand, smartphones have become an enemy for students at school. why is that so? students believe that the smart gadget can perform sophisticated tasks, such as copying documents with a camera. searching for a formula in maths, physics, and chemistry problems with a search engine. this way, students become lazy. they find it difficult to concentrate with the presence of smartphones in their hands. moreover, smartphones with an internet connection also link to porn sites, gambling sites, free addictive online games, social networks, and teleconference using YM or Skype.
Thus, smartphones will not help students achieve good grades but create new problems in learning. students should realise that smartphones will make them distracted. hence, students should mute their phone during classes.
