Listening Section
In this section of the test, you will have the chance to show how well you understand spoken English. There are four parts to this section, with special directions for each part.

Part I. Pictures
Directions: In this part of the test, you will see a picture in your test paper and you will hear four short statements. The statements will be spoken TWICE, and are NOT WRITTEN out in your test book, so you must listen carefully. You must choose one statement – A, B, C, or D – that best describes the picture. Then, on your answer sheet, mark your choice.

Look at the picture below and listen to the four statements.

A. The clock is going to be sold.

B. The clocks are hanging on the wall.

C. It’s time to wake up.

D. It’s time to sleep.

Choice (B) – “The clocks are hanging on the wall.” – best describes what is seen in the picture. Therefore, you should mark (B) on your answer sheet.

Let’s begin with question number one.

  1. Look at picture number 1.

A. The engineer is designing an automobile.

B. The woman is working with electronic tools.

C. The mechanic is repairing the engine.

D. The repairman is going to sell the car.

  1. Look at picture number 2.

A. School girls are playing musical instruments in music class.

B. The man is playing the guitar and the piano.

C. She’s playing the violin beautifully.

D. The vintage violin is in front of the piano. 

  1. Look at picture number 3.

A. The man has straight hair.

B. The man has a mustache and a beard.

C. The man has slanted eyes, like Chinese people.

D. The man has a flat nose.

PART II. Questions and Responses

Directions: In this part of the test, you will hear several questions spoken in English followed by three responses, also spoken in English. The questions and responses will be spoken TWICE. They will not be printed in your test book, so you must listen carefully to understand what the speakers are saying. You have to choose the best response to each question.

Now listen to a sample question.

You will hear          :                Man                  : I’m having trouble in English class, what should I do?

You will also hear  :                Woman            :           A. Everyone is speaking English.

B. The class is clean.

C. I could try to help you.

Choice (C) – “I could try to help you” – is the best response to the question, “I’m having trouble in English class, what should I do?” Therefore, you should mark (C) on your answer sheet.

  1. I think maximum fine should be given to traffic law violators.

A. Yes. The separator must be two times higher than the one it replaced.

B. Right. It will prevent vehicles from entering the bus way.

C. Absolutely. People tend to be corrupt if they have absolute power.

  1. Do you want to join us to go fishing tonight?

A. No. Please let me know soon.

B. Alright, where will it be?

C. How much does she have to pay?

  1. How do I get to SMK Permata from here?

A. You can get special price this month.

B. Take the first left and it’s next to the bank.

C. It’s on Solata Street. You won’t miss it. 

PART III. Short Conversation

Directions:In this part of the test, you will hear several short conversations. You will hear the conversations TWICE. The conversations will not be printed in your test book, so you must listen carefully to understand what the speakers are saying.In your test book, you will read a question about each conversation. The question will be followed by four answers. You have to choose the best answer to each question and mark it on your answer sheet.

Now listen to a sample question.

You will hear: Man     : How often do you study English outside the class?

Woman : Twice a week.

Man       : Good for you. I prefer to study at the Art Center.

Woman : That sounds like a good place to study.

You will read: Where is the man’s preference to study?

A. At home.

B. At the Art Center.

C. At the office.

D. In Kuta Beach.

Choice (B) – “At the Art Center.” – is the best answer to the question “Where is the man’s preference to study?” therefore, you should mark (B) on your answer sheet.

  1. Woman : So, you sing in Lebon café every night? What is it like?

Man       : Right, eight to eleven.It’s fun and exciting.Because of that, I get a lot of friends.

Woman  : I’m happy to hear that. May I go with you sometime?

Man       : Sure and we can sing “endless love”. I believe they’ll love it.

What does the man say about his job?

  1. Man : Hi! I’d like to book a table for 10 on Thursday night.

Woman: I’m sorry sir, but we have a private party reserved for that evening. Can I recommend you to consider another day? Friday night is available.

Man       : Good, Friday at 8. Is it Ok with you?

What is the man doing?

  1. Woman : May I take a look inside your house?

Man       : Sure. It’s very spacious and cozy, isn’t it?

Woman  : Yeah, I love the interior design. Can I have 25% discount for this unit?

Man       : Deal, but please do the payment by tomorrow.

What is the woman going to do next?

  1. Woman : I really love the design of Xtron computer better. What do you think?

Man       : Well, the Xtron has a lot of extra features, but I think we should go for our the Cobra.

Woman  : Yeah, the Cobra is a lot cheaper. Xtron and Cobra are both good brands,so I’m OK with either one.

PART IV. Short Talks

Directions: In this part of the test you will hear two short talks. Each will be spoken TWICE. They will not be printed in your test book, so you must listen carefully to understand and remember what is said. In your test book, you will read two questions about each short talk. Each question will be followed by four answers. You have to choose the best answer to each question and mark it on your answer sheet.

Questions 11 to 13 refer to the following procedure.

When the email session is over, it’s time to log out. What’s the best way to log out of Gmail?

Steps:

First, open your Gmail page (mail.google.com), and in the top right corner click on your photo or email address. From the popup, click “Sign out.” Or tap Settings. This will open the Settings control panel. Then tap “Sign out.” This will log you out of your Google+ session.

Remember: If you’re logged into Gmail on multiple computers, go to the bottom of your Gmail page, click Details, then click “Sign out all othersessions.”  Don’t let anyone read your email!
